The Joneses 03:24

about

"The duo seem to revel in their underground alchemy and while listening to this deranged circus symphony, the audience do too." - Louder Than War

"A document of Zapoppin’ at their most energetic and liberated...leaving the audience by turns confused and exhilarated as the band veer from punkish guitar-less garage to vibrato-led end-of-the-pier ballads." - Weirdomusic.com

"They're just different and fun. Getting cultish? I'll be playing more of that. 'Cos it's good!" - The Shend

"Off-kilter freaky folk music with a punk attitude...Zapoppin's set is like being caught in the midst of frantic, friendly fire. Resistance is futile." - Here Comes The Flood

"10 frantic tracks whizzing by in about 30 minutes. It's quite hard to peg a genre-blending/creating band like Zapoppin'...I would compare them to Gypsy Punks Gogol Bordello, Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock's short-lived side-project Ugly Casanova, wailer Tom Waits, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds." - The Witzard

*

The Curse is a legendary place. Part batcave. Part Cornish folk institution. It has its own neo-gothic homespun charm which sees its patrons behave in a way unique to its hidden location and mythic history.

Zapoppin’ are a group well-suited to rattle its walls. Dark folkists, lurking on the edge of pop and absurdity. When they passed through this hallowed venue on their UK tour in 2016, the group had stripped down to an electrified duo which saw the harmonium replaced with a vintage Hohner Symphonic 32. Their concert at The Curse saw cuts from across the band’s history as well as some indication of what the group may explore in the future.

Witness that night on this here recording. Lower your expectations, grab your partner by the pineal gland and have yourself a post-erotic throwdown!
